Hello August!
Designing a Better Way to Live. Summer has always been my favorite season in Seattle. Long evenings, waterfront parks, neighborhood cafés, and endless opportunities to get outside make it easy to appreciate what makes this city so special.
Wilson and I recently returned from Copenhagen, and while every city has its own character, the trip reminded me that the world’s most livable places share many of the same qualities: walkable neighborhoods, thoughtful design, inviting public spaces, and a strong connection to nature. It also made me appreciate how many of those same ingredients already exist here in Seattle—and the opportunity we have to continue building on them.
It’s also something I hear from buyers every day. They’re not simply looking for a house—they’re looking for a neighborhood and a way of living that feels right.
That idea inspired this month’s edition of Modernae, where you’ll find stories about livability, thoughtful design, the latest Seattle market, along with a few homes and ideas that caught my attention this month.

DESIGNING A BETTER WAY TO LIVE. This month, I’ve been thinking about what makes a place truly enjoyable to call home. A recent trip to Copenhagen reminded me that great cities aren’t defined by a single landmark or building—they’re shaped by thoughtful neighborhoods, inviting public spaces, and the everyday experiences that enrich our lives.
In this month’s Modernae Blog, I reflect on what Seattle can learn from one of the world’s most livable cities and explore the work of renowned landscape designer Piet Oudolf, whose naturalistic approach to planting has transformed public spaces around the world—and offers inspiration for gardens here in the Pacific Northwest. |
