One of Our Favorite Things About Living in Seattle

One of the best things about living in Seattle is how quickly you can leave the city behind.

Mountains, islands, wine country, coastal towns and rain forests are all within road-trip range—and every summer, we try to take advantage of it.

August is typically one of the slower months in Seattle real estate. After the intensity of the spring and early summer markets, things tend to quiet down as people squeeze in vacations and enjoy the last stretch of Seattle summer. We try to do the same.

For us, that means a road trip.

It’s become one of our favorite summer traditions: pick a part of the Pacific Northwest, load up the car with Hibiki, and head out for a few days.

Last summer, we went glamping in the Columbia River Gorge, with plenty of wineries and good food along the way. Other years have taken us to the Olympic Peninsula and Hoh Rain Forest, Whidbey Island, the Gorge, Walla Walla and beyond.

This year, we headed south for the Oregon Coast and wine country—broad beaches, small coastal towns, beautiful drives, foodie destinations and a few glasses of wine along the way.

No elaborate itinerary. Just time to explore.

Why Seattle Still Feels Like Home

Travel always gives us a little perspective on the place we live.

And every time we take one of these trips, we come home appreciating Seattle a little more. There are remarkably different landscapes and experiences within a few hours of the city—yet we still get to return to the neighborhoods, community, food and everyday rhythms we love here.

For us, that’s part of what makes living in Seattle special.

So much to explore. And a home we’re always happy to come back to.
